This discarded wee Christmas tree got wedged in the larger tree by the wind...and it was stuck up there for a good long while.  I don't think it was still there when I moved back to the US.

I loved the contrasts in this picture:  The dark, almost black bark against the vivid green, against the light stone of the tenement.

Ok, I've decided to share a few more tree photos from my walk home from when I lived in Edinburgh.  And then I'll bombard you with all the spring tree pictures I've been taking here in Maryland over the past week or so.

And of course, if a tree is really showing off with both flowers and spring leaves....sigh.  Honestly, I could just stare at them for hours.  It's a wonder I made it successfully to and from work on the days I had this to look at.

Spring trees

More than trees in full bloom, what I really, really love about trees in the spring is the color of new leaves, especially the contrast of new leaves against dark bark.

Walking home in Edinburgh

This week I decided to share a few pictures from my walk home when I lived in Scotland.  It's still spring there, as you can see from flowering cherry trees.  At least I think they're cherry trees.

Early Spring in the Meadows

Ok, I admit it.  I took this picture more for the crocus than the tree, but since there technically are trees in the photo...

This is what spring looks like in Edinburgh, and it lasts a long time.  Crocus and daffodils bloom and bloom, and then the cherry trees start their show. It's so very beautiful.

Holyrood Palace

We are standing on the grounds of Holyrood Palace looking out through the gate at the Salisbury Crags.  I love the contrast between the dark iron and the amber Larch. 

Walk this way

Don't you just want to walk in among those trees and breathe deep?  That's the base of Salisbury Crags.

Walk to the university

Theresa walked this way to work all the time when she lived in Scotland.  Whenever I walked to meet her for lunch it took me ages to get there.  So many trees. So many beautiful sights. Lots of amazing air. 

Royal Tree

It's a bit of a cheat because this tree is indoors but I had to pose in front of it when we were at Holyrood Castle. The crowns and lights were the only decorations.  Everything else would have been superfluous. 

Not solitary at all

This little tree was surrounded by many older and wiser. I liked it a lot.

Arthur's Seat

I can almost smell the leaves decomposing at the base of these trees. Even better, I can hear the crunch, swish as we walked among them. I love Autumn

Edinburgh

This line of trees along the walkway to the university was part of Theresa's walk to work every day for four years.  I sat on that bench a few times when visiting her because it was so lovely to be surrounded by that much beauty.

I'm horrible at species and genus, but if I remember correctly, they were poplars.
